PURPOSE: The Advisory Committee will provide input and recommendations to the Governing Body of the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital (VPCH) on performance, review operations, resources, programs, and services, and discuss, formulate, and forward well-developed, thoughtful recommendations with the objective of VPCH attaining and sustaining its goals and mission.
AUTHORITY: This committee serves in an advisory capacity and as such decisions/ recommendations made are non-binding.
GOVERNING BODY: Commissioner of the Vermont Department of Mental Health
COMPOSITION: Advisory Committee membership is open to the public and voluntary. Any Vermonter with an interest in the state mental health system, and VPCH in particular, are welcome to attend. Information about meeting times and locations can be found online through the Vermont Department of Mental Health’s website. Participation from the following is specifically encouraged:
- Members of National Alliance on Mental Illness
- Disability Rights VT
- Vermont Psychiatric Survivors
- State of Vermont Designated Agencies
- Department of Mental Health
- Peer(s) with lived hospitalization experience
- Family member(s) with a loved one who is/was hospitalized
MEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Advisory Committee meetings will be facilitated by the CEO of the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital or their designee.
- Review and provide input for services and resources. Follow and provide input regarding industry, socio-economic, and community trends that impact the hospital.
- Analyze information and data as needed.
- Make recommendations consistent with the hospital’s mission, bylaws, regulatory framework, and policies.
MEETINGS:
- The Advisory Committee will be scheduled to meet every two months.
- The Facilitator will provide organization and leadership of the meeting.
- Attendees will have a chance to express their opinion on discussion topics. When a member has the floor others will yield until the person speaking is finished. Time limits for speaking will be applied as necessary to ensure members are able to participate equally.
