Department of Mental Health Seeking Qualified Bidders for Psychiatry Services

Waterbury, VT: Last week, the Vermont Department of Mental Health (DMH) issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) seeking qualified bidders to provide one or more psychiatry or related services to support the Department, including opportunities at the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital and the new River Valley Therapeutic Residence.

The Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital is Vermont’s sole state-run psychiatric hospital serving patients on involuntary status in the custody of the Commissioner of Mental Health. Offering a state-of-the-art facility designed to promote and enhance patient recovery, the 25-bed, acute care hospital offers patient areas designed for comfort and safety.

River Valley Therapeutic Residence will be a 16-bed, secure residential facility serving adults with severe mental illness. This new facility is nearing the final stages of construction and is slated to begin treating residents in the Spring of 2023. The facility will serve individuals who have been placed on an Order of Non-Hospitalization and are ready for discharge from a psychiatric hospital or corrections and are not yet ready to transition to the community.

The purpose of the RFP is to solicit proposals from qualified individuals or companies to provide physician and psychiatric services for DMH and its programs. The scope of work described in this RFP has six key elements that can be combined or bid on separately:

  1. Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital Executive Medical Officer
  1. Patient Care Providers for 24/7 psychiatry coverage
  1. Primary Care Medical Services at the Vermont Psychiatric Care Hospital
  1. River Valley Therapeutic Residence Psychiatry
  1. Children, Adolescent, and Family Unit Medical Director
  1. Telepsychiatry services for emergency examinations to support emergency departments

This RFP for Psychiatry Services is open and will be accepting proposals until 4:30 PM ET on January 30, 2023. For more information about this RFP and other opportunities and active requests from the Department of Mental Health, please visit the DMH Careers and Opportunities website.
